Miriam: The Brave Big Sister

Exodus 2; 15

Miriam was a loving big sister to baby Moses. At that time, the king of Egypt, Pharaoh made a very unkind rule. He did not want the Hebrew baby boys to live, and it was a scary time for families. To keep Moses safe, Miriam’s mother made a little basket and placed baby Moses inside. She hid the basket among the tall reeds by the river so the helpers of Pharoah would not find him. Miriam was old enough to watch over the basket so she stayed nearby to make sure her baby brother was safe. Soon, Pharaoh’s daughter came to the river to take a bath. When she saw the basket, she opened it and found baby Moses crying. She felt compassion for him. Miriam bravely stepped forward and said, “I know someone who can help take care of the baby!” So she brought her own mother and Moses was cared for safely. Many years later, God rescued His people from Egypt. Miriam celebrated God’s goodness by singing and dancing with joy. She thanked God for keeping His promises.
