Mahlah: The Brave Daughter Who Spoke Up

Numbers 27

Mahlah was one of five sisters. The others were Noah, Hoglah, Milcah and Tirzah. Their father had died and in those days, only sons were allowed to receive family land. Mahlah and her sisters loved God and their family. They wanted their father’s land to stay in their family. So Mahlah and her sisters went to see Moses, the leader of Israel. They spoke kindly and said, “Please let the land come to us, since we are his daughters.” Moses listened to them and talked to God about what they had asked. God answered and said it was fair and good for the sisters to receive the land. So the land was given to them, and everyone learned that God cares about fairness and listens to those who come to Him kindly and bravely.
