Athaliah: The Queen Who Couldn’t Stop God’s Plan

2 Kings 11

Athaliah was the queen of Judah, but she made many wrong choices and did not follow God’s ways. She wanted to keep the throne for herself and did not want anyone else to become king. She began looking for any royal children who might grow up to take the throne. In the palace, there was a little boy named Joash who was meant to be the next king. Joash was a child from King David’s family and God had promised that future kings would come from David’s family line. Joash’s aunt, a kind woman named Jehosheba quickly hid the little boy in the temple so he would be safe. The priests took care of him and protected him while he grew. So God made sure Joash was protected in the temple until he was old enough to be king. When Joash was seven years old, the people made him king just as God had planned. The people were happy again and thanked God.
