Martha

Luke 10:38-42; John 11:1-44

Martha lived in a village called Bethany with her sister Mary and their brother Lazarus. She loved Jesus very much and welcomed Him into their home whenever He visited. Martha always wanted everything to be just right for Him, so she cooked, cleaned and worked very hard to prepare the house. While Martha was busy, Mary sat quietly and listened to Jesus. Martha felt tired and wished her sister Mary would help. Martha felt upset and asked Jesus to tell Mary to help. Jesus smiled gently and said, “Martha, spending time with Me is the best thing.” Later, something very sad happened. Martha’s brother Lazarus died. When Jesus came to Bethany, Martha ran to Him right away. Even in her sadness, she said, “Lord, I know that God will give You whatever You ask.” Jesus told her that Lazarus would live again. Then He called Lazarus out of the tomb, and Lazarus came back to life! Martha’s heart was filled with joy, and her faith in Jesus became even stronger.
