Abigail: The Wise Peacemaker

1 Samuel 25

Abigail was a kind and wise woman, and her husband’s name was Nabal. Nearby lived David, who was not king yet, but God had chosen him to be the next king. David’s men had been helping keep Nabal’s sheep safe. When David’s men asked Nabal for a little food, Nabal was rude and said no. This made David very angry, and he started out toward house of Nabal. A big fight could have started. Abigail heard what happened and quickly gathered food and gifts. She went to meet David before he arrived. Abigail spoke gently and kindly. Her wise words helped David calm down, and she stopped a big fight from happening.
