Mary, Mother of Jesus

Luke 1-2; John 19:25

Mary was a young woman who loved God with her whole heart. One day, an angel came to her! Mary felt a little scared, but the angel told her, “Do not be afraid, Mary. God is with you. He has chosen you and loves you very much.” Then the angel told her something very special. He said, “You will have a baby. You will name Him Jesus. He will be great and He will be called the Son of the Most High.” Mary listened carefully. She did not understand everything but she trusted God. So Mary said, “I am the Lord’s servant. I want everything to happen just the way God has said.” Mary was going to marry a kind man named Joseph, who also loved God. Later, the ruler of the land said everyone had to go to their hometown to be counted. So Mary and Joseph traveled to a town called Bethlehem. When they arrived, the town was full of people, and there was no room anywhere. So when it was time for the baby to be born, Mary and Joseph stayed in a quiet stable. Baby Jesus was born there. Mary wrapped Him in soft cloths and placed Him in a manger, a little feeding box filled with hay. Mary held her baby close and thanked God for His wonderful gift. When Jesus grew up and began His special work of teaching people, helping the sick, and sharing God’s love, Mary stayed close to Him. She loved Him, trusted Him and followed God’s plan all her life.
